冉庄地道战遗址地处华北平原中部，位于保定市西南30公里处的清苑县冉庄镇，南距省会石家庄130公里，北距首都北京140公里，距京石高速公路清苑口17公里，省级公路保衡路在遗址东9公里处南北纵穿，省级公路蠡野路在冉庄村北东西横贯。

冉庄地道战遗址是第二次世界大战中中国人民抗击日本侵略者的一处重要战争遗址。冉庄地道战是冉庄人民与日寇艰苦卓越斗争的一个伟大创举。

冉庄始建于隋代，唐代植槐于街，宋朝一度繁荣，素有唐村宋镇之说。冉庄地道始挖于1938年，1937年“七.七”事变后，日本侵略者大举南侵，使冀中人民蒙受了巨大的战争苦难。为了防御敌人的袭击，保存自己，抗御外侮，冉庄一带人民开始挖地洞，最后挖成地道。冉庄地道一般宽0.7至0.8米，高约1至1.5米，上距地面2米多。地道以十字街为中心，顺沿东、西、南、北大街挖成4条干线地道，再由干线延伸出20多条支线，直通村外和周边几个村，最后挖成户户村连、村村相通、四通八达、上下呼应，长达16公里的地道网。

在斗争实践中，冉庄人民用他们的智慧和艰苦的劳动，把地道网建设得十分完备。地道分为作战用的军用地道和供群众隐蔽用的民用地道。地道内有指挥部、休息室、储粮室，设有路牌和油灯，还有地下兵工厂、翻眼、陷井等多处秘密设施。

同时，充分利用地形地貌特征，在墙壁、地面、井壁、牲口糟、炕面、锅台、衣柜等不易发现处，巧妙的构筑地道口，并加以伪装，使敌人难以发现。

为了便于监视、射击敌人，还利用高房、地面等有利的地形地貌，构筑工事多处，并与地道相通。同时，在街道、路口遍布地雷，将引线引入地道。这样，冉庄地上地下各种工事相互配合，形成了一个个立体火力网，成为一座能打能藏、可攻可守、进退自如的地下长城。

抗日战争时期，冉庄人民饱尝了日寇的血腥屠杀，经受了血与火考验的冉庄人民在中国共产党的领导下，不畏强暴，奋起抗日，利用地道优势配合武工队、野战军对敌作战157次，歼敌2100余名，其中较大的战役5次，荣获了“地道战模范村”的光荣称号。

冉庄地道战遗址保护区30万平方米，保留着上世纪三、四十年代冀中平原村落的环境风貌。地下保留着当年的地道3000米，现对游客开放1200米。纪念馆展厅占地面积960平方米。展厅内珍藏着宝贵的革命文物431件，其中一、二、三革命文物101件。

冉庄地道战纪念馆1959年建馆并对游人开放。现为全国首批重点文物保护单位、全国首批百家爱国主义教育示范基地之一、全国青少年教育基地、河北省爱国主义教育基地、河北省国防教育基地。2005年被列为全国首批百家红色旅游经典景区之一。

《地道战》、《烈火金刚》、《敌后武工队》、《平原游击队》、《刘关张传奇》等许多影视片都曾在此拍摄。
